Local Hotel Options
These are some on-campus options for short-term stays. Availability is limited, so reservations need to be made early.
Notes: Prices and terms are subject to change without notice. It is usually best to call the local (805) number for these hotels, rather than use an (800) number or a reservation website. Calling the local number will enable you to get more accurate information about UCSB/KITP discounts, and about availability for your dates. N.B.: With nearly all local motels, there are some dates during the year (such as UCSB graduation weekend in June or during Old Spanish Days festival in August) when rates may be substantially higher.
The mountainside rooms have one king-size bed, a recliner, and views of the surrounding mountains. The rates for "mountainside" rooms are for single visitors or couples. Rates include a deluxe continental breakfast. You can get the KITP rate online by entering KITP in the company field.
The gardenside rooms are larger and have one king- or two queen-size beds, a mini-refrigerator, and provide views of the lagoon and gardens. The rates for "gardenside" rooms are for singles or doubles; occupancy by more than 2 persons will entail a surcharge. The hotel has three two-room "family" suites; contact the hotel for availability and pricing.
Rooms have complimentary high-speed internet (both ethernet & wireless.) All rooms feature hairdryers, irons and ironing boards, coffeemakers, clock radios, a desk and two telephones. Rooms feature a private balcony or patio. There is also a small business center for guest use. In addition, guests receive complimentary athletic club privileges at a local facility.
The hotel also offers complimentary taxi to/from the local airport or either train station. Upon arrival, call the Ramada or Gold Cab (805-681-9000) to take advantage of this free service. The hotel also provides complimentary taxi service to/from the University, available daily but limited to one round-trip per day. There is also nearby an off-road bike path to campus.
If you call, please identify yourself as a UCSB-KITP visitor to get the discounted rate. You must guarantee your reservation with a credit card but, if you cancel by 3pm on the day of arrival, you will not be charged. Best Western South Coast Inn
The Best Western Southcoast Inn is located about 3 miles from the KITP, and is a frequent choice with our visitors, who get a discounted rate as follows (rates are per night/week, *plus* 10% tax.)

These rates are for single or double occupancy, and are guaranteed on weekends and holidays. The rooms have either one king bed or two queen beds. You may not get as low a rate online, in which case, you will need to call or e-mail the motel directly and request the KITP rate.
The hotel also has some two-room "family suites"; contact the hotel for availability and pricing. Suites include a room with one king bed, plus a living room with a double sofa bed and a wet bar with sink.
There is a free shuttle bus that is used to ferry guests to and from the Santa Barbara airport and the UCSB campus. A complimentary continental breakfast is offered each morning, and a wine and cheese buffet, featuring local wines and ales, is offered at no cost in the hotel lobby, Monday through Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. All rooms have a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron & ironing board and DVD player with complimentary use of the BWSCI DVD library. They also offer high speed internet access, including wireless printing, as well as free local calls with two phone lines and voicemail. There is a pool, and the BWSCI is within walking distance of several restaurants, shops, and a movie theater.
It is necessary to secure your reservation at The Southcoast Inn with a credit card. You must cancel by 4:00PM on the date of arrival to avoid being charged. The KITP rate is not available online or through travel agents, but you may either call or email your reservation request to sales at santa-barbara-hotel.com. You must identify yourself as a KITP visitor to get the discounted rate.

Extended StayAmerica
The Extended StayAmerica is located about 3.5 miles from KITP. It is 1/2 mile from the #11 city bus line to campus or downtown SB. There is nearby an off-road bike path to campus. Gold Cab offers a 10% discount on taxi service to their guests.
Studio apartments have one or two beds and are equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, two burner cook-top, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, pots, pans, and dishes for two. There is a recliner chair, voicemail service, cable TV, and free local phone service. High-speed internet service is offered for a one-time nominal charge. There is an on-site laundry facility, open 24 hours.
For reservations, you may call the motel or make reservations directly online. To get the discount (approximately 6%,) mention KITP or enter KITP as the company code online. They offer weekly and monthly rates, often at very substantial discounts from their daily rate.

Holiday Inn
The Holiday Inn is located next to the Southcoast Inn. Rates are higher during the summer months, May 1 through Labor Day. No extra charge for double occupancy, up to 4 people per room. Request UCSB rate. If there are any questions about qualifying for the UCSB rate, ask to speak to "Daniel," the front desk manager.
There is a restaurant on the premises. Free high-speed wireless internet access and expanded cable service is available in all rooms. A coin-operated laundry is provided, and there is a complimentary shuttle to the airport (6:15am to 10:00pm). Another amenity is access to the Goleta Valley Athletic Club.

Hampton Inn
The recently-opened Hampton Inn is located only 2.5 miles from KITP, about 1.5 miles from the airport. No extra charge for double occupancy, up to 4 people per room.
Rooms start around $150; 7-day discount. Rates vary; check online. No shuttle service, but very conveniently located if you have a car. They are also on the #11 bus line, with service every 1/2 hour to campus during the daytime.
Rate includes complimentary breakfast. Free high speed internet access; free local phone calls. Swimming pool, fitness room. Near Old Town Goleta shops, but not convenient to bike/foot paths.

Pacifica Suites
The Pacifica Suites Hotel is an "all-suites" hotel about 2 miles from KITP. Suites have separate bedrooms, C.D. Player and DVD Player. Also have refrigerator and bath with separate dressing area. They offer a "corporate rate" to UCSB-KITP visitors. Rates are higher on weekends and in summer. They are also on the #11 bus line, with service every 1/2 hour to campus during the daytime.

Motel 6
Motel 6 is a budget motel located 1/2 mile from the Southcoast Inn. Their rates for single occupancy during the off season in 2007 are: Sunday thru Thursday, $63.99 + 10% tax; Friday & Saturday may be more. During the summer season, rates are higher. Rates change frequently; check their website for details.

Super 8
Super Eight is another budget motel located 1 and 1/2 miles from UCSB. Their discounted UCSB rate for single occupancy during the summer season (May 12 through September 30), is $83.61 Sunday through Thursday and $86.00 for Friday and Saturday, plus 10% tax. The off-season rate is $61.00 plus tax. Rates seem to be subject to periodic change, despite information given to KITP. To be certain of getting the UCSB rate (a '10% discount rate'), ask for the front desk manager (Darryl) or the general manager (Van). They are also on the #11 bus line, with service every 1/2 hour to campus during the daytime.

Holiday Inn Express (Hotel Virginia) is a 61 room hotel in the downtown Santa Barbara area, near the beach and downtown sightseeing and shopping. It features classic 1920's art decor furnishings with modern amenities, such as free WiFi access. It is fully air-conditioned and has a private parking lot (there is a $7 per day parking fee). Because of location, prices are more like a regular Holiday Inn than Express.
Rate includes a continental breakfast, and no extra charge for double occupancy (when available). To get the KITP special rate, let them know you are with "Theoretical Physics" at UCSB. The manager is Kay Mortar.

El Prado
The El Prado Inn has been recommended by recent visitors as a good option for housing midway between campus and downtown Santa Barbara. It is located a short walk away from the stop for the express bus to UCSB.
There is 'hostel' in Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Tourist Hotel. This is a low-cost alternative located in the downtown Santa Barbara area.
