KITP Telepresence Facility

The KTP has established a telepresence facility which provides high quality remote access capability for program participants. This facility provides remote participation in KITP programs through advanced videoconferencing services. Program participants who need to be away from KITP during a program can give a talk and interact with the other participants in a natural manner. Similarly, special guests or speakers who cannot attend a conference in person can use this facility to give a talk and take questions from the audience. Presentation of transparencies, viewgraphs, or slides from the remote end is easily accomplished.

Details

The telepresence facility consists of advanced videoconferencing equipment which provides high quality audio and video in both directions. It makes use of the bandwidth and quality of service available on the Internet2 which includes most major universities. The remote participant should be located at one of these campuses in order to use this system. Arrangements need to be made ahead of time in order to ensure that the remote site is capable of supporting this type of connection.
