Using the KITP Computers

The computers provided at the KITP run Apple's Mac OS X. This is a BSD UNIX based operating system; if you are familiar with any other UNIX variant (including Linux), you should feel right at home. These systems provide side by side access to software suites such as Microsoft Office in addition to X11 based scientific programs.  You may want to view our hardware and software overview page.

If you are new to Mac OS X, take a look at our printable OS X tip sheet, or ask the help desk for a copy.

Another option is to choose Mac Help from the Help menu in the Finder (desktop). There are also some third party video tutorials and software tutorials available online.

If you have any other questions or problems, read through our FAQ or contact the help desk.
