KITP Laptop Printing Guide
To set up your laptop to print on the KITP printers, follow the instructions below. Note - a list of printer queue names, models, and locations is available which you will need when choosing which printer to use.

Windows 
- Choose Control Panel from the Start menu.
- If using Classic View: double click Printers and Faxes; click Add Printer in the left menu.
If using Category View: click Printers and Other Hardware; click Add a printer.
- A wizard should appear to guide you through the setup process. Click Next. Select A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer; Click Next.
- Select the second option Connect to this printer. In the Name field type \\prtsrv2.kitp.ucsb.edu\<queue name> where queue name is chosen from this list. An error may appear saying that the printer driver could not be found; just click Ok.
- In the left menu box scroll down and select HP. In the right menu box scroll down and choose <driver name>. Make sure you choose the PS driver and not the PCS one. It may take a minute for the printer to be added.
- Click Finish.

Linux 
(There may be variations based on the specific flavour of Linux)
Red Hat Linux:
- Start the Printer Configuration utility usually located at Start/Applications/PrinterConfiguration or the System menu.
- Click on the New icon (for adding a new printer).
- Enter the desired queue name from our list.
- Set the queue type to Unix printer.
- To configure the remote lpd server, enter prtsrv2 for the server name and set the queue name the same as in step 3.
- Next choose the printer driver type as Postscript Printer.
- Click Finish.
- Restart the printing services daemon on your laptop (usually when you click finish it prompts for a restart).
- Check progress of printing with the command "lpq -P<queuename>".

Mac OS X 
(These instructions apply to 10.4.x (Tiger). Other versions may be slightly different.
- From any program, choose Print from the File menu (or open the Printer Setup Utility in your Utilities folder).
- You may be able to find the desired printer through the Bonjour menu - if so, choose it and you're done. If not, continue on to step 3.
- From the Printer popup menu, choose Add Printer... (or Edit Printer List... depending on your OS version).
- A list of printers should appear in a separate window. Click on the Add button to add a printer.
- Click on IP Printer in the toolbar and choose printer type LPD/LPR. Fill in the printer address as prtsrv2.kitp.ucsb.edu and the desired queue name from this list. Choose the printer model and fill it out.
- When finished, press the Add button.
