LEADERSHIP GIFT CREATES THE FREDERICK W. GLUCK CHAIR IN THEORETICAL PHYSICS AT THE KITP

The leadership of Fred Gluck has transformed
the institute's fundraising efforts since he assumed
the role of co-chair of the Director's Council in 2000,
and made a gift of $1 million to endow the institute's
first chair, designated for its director. The chair is
called the Frederick W. Gluck Chair in Theoretical Physics at the Kavli Institute, and in making the gift
Fred cited the outstanding and visionary role of the
institute in international science. The institute's Nobel Laureate director, David Gross, is the first chair
holder. Fred continues to play a critical volunteer
role in leading the effort to raise nearly $30
million in
endowment funds for the institute.
