Friends of KITP Events & Activities
The events and activities of the Friends of KITP are intellectually stimulating and provide you access to emerging ideas and many of the world's most distinguished scientists. You will discover rewarding opportunities to explore developments at the frontiers of fundamental knowledge with like-minded members of the community in convivial and informal settings.
The activities range from sold-out presentations at the Lobero Theater (Brian Greene on The Elegant Universe; our own Nobel Laureate and Director of the KITP, David Gross, with his friend Stephen Hawking on Inside the Science and Ceremony of the 2004 Nobel Prize), elegant receptions in private homes featuring leading scientists, private command performances at the Ensemble Theater of plays with scientific themes (Proof, Humble Boy), public lectures at the institute, and interactive Chalk Talks on current research in areas such as the birth, life and death of stars, how the brain works, cosmic superstrings, Einstein's legacies, folding RNA, and the search for habitable environments in the solar system.
Other activities have included a behind-the-scenes tour of JPL with the head of the Mars Exploration Program (an event available only to members of higher Circles), and the institute's Art, Image and Science initiative that includes exciting events exploring the vibrant relationship between art and science in changing exhibitions at the KITP, with talks by artists at opening receptions.
