B.A., Art History and Psychology, UCLA.
Mr. Luria is the owner of Luria Development Company,
which has built numerous homes, apartments and office
buildings in Santa Barbara. However, he is probably
best known for his involvement in community work in
Santa Barbara. He has been on the Board of Trustees
at Santa Barbara City College since 1976. After helping
create the Foundation for SBCC, he served as the president
for two years and is currently serving on the executive
board. He was co-chairman of the successful bond drive
to obtain the 31-acre plot for the West Campus, served
on the committee to raise the supplementary funds needed
for the new buildings on campus (including Luria Library),
assisted in the layout, design and building of the east
entrance and sculpture garden and was instrumental in
the establishment and landscaping of the Selmer O. Wake
Continuing Education Center and the Alice F. Schott
Center.
Mr. Luria is also a Life Honorary Trustee of the Santa
Barbara Museum of Art, where he oversaw the restoration
of the McCormick House into the Ridley-Tree Art Education
Center, the renovation of the front steps/entrance to
the Museum and was in charge of the renovation of the
old wing.
He is involved with the Santa Barbara Jewish Federation,
Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and Music Academy of the
West, and he has also served as Board member of the
Citizens Planning Association, President and Board member
of the United Nations Association, Board member of the
Bank of Montecito, President and Board member of the
S.B. Continuing Education Advisory Council, founding
member of the County of Santa Barbara Art Advisory Board,
Chairman of the 1972 County Heart Fund Drive and Commissioner
of the County Arts Council.
His honors include the 1973 Cine Award for educational
film, 1988 Man of the Year of the Anti-Defamation League,
1990 Builder Emeritus Award for the S.B. County Chapter
of the Building Industry Association, 1990 Santa Barbara
News Press Lifetime Achievement Award, 1996 Santa Barbara
Man of the Year, 2001 Wright S. Ludington Award at the
Santa Barbara Museum of Art and 2001 Philanthropist
of the Year for Santa Barbara County.
Mr. Luria is also a published cartoonist. His cartoon,
"Mindy Anne," appeared in the Montecito Life
newspaper, "Travel Sketch" appeared in the
Santa Barbara News Press and his book, "Travel Sketches,"
was published by the Museum of Art.
He
and his wife, Leatrice, have been married for 57 years.
They have one daughter and two grandchildren, have lived
in Montecito for 47 years and he and his wife enjoy
traveling and collecting art. He loves to play golf,
draw cartoons, paint and read about the universe and
American History.

The dual screen, rotating display of images can be enjoyed in the new lobby of Kohn Hall. The innovative digital database represents a dynamic collection, curated and added to by KITP Artist in Residence, Jean-Pierre Hebert. A pair of lcd wall-mounted screens, donated by Director's Council member Eli Luria and his wife Leatrice Luria, create a continuous and fascinating juxtaposition of images. More Information
